Benjamin Butler Hersey (1903-1971) was born in Salem, Massachusetts . He graduated from Tufts University with a BS and STB in 1935 and was awarded an honorary DD in 1944. He was ordained as a Universalist minister in Annisquam Village in Gloucester, Massachusetts, in 1931. He also served pastorates at the Congress Square Church of Portland, Maine, and the Church of the Divine Paternity in New York City.
